Yarra Valley Food & Drink

Start with Something Local: Cheese, Wine & Sweet Treats

Yarra Valley food and drink trail adventures begin with cheese—and Coldstream Dairy is the ideal place to start. Just off the main road, this family-run dairy makes delicious goat and cow’s milk cheeses right on site. From creamy chèvre to bold marinated feta, there’s always something fresh to taste and take home. Best of all, the friendly team will happily guide you through their range with samples and suggestions. It’s a fantastic way to start your day—especially if you’re only in the valley for a short visit. I often bring guests here for breakfast or a late brunch. But don’t sleep in—it fills up fast, so book ahead if you can.

Next Stop: Gin Distillery

Next up, if you’re ready to sip something stronger, make your way to Four Pillars Distillery in Healesville. This spot has truly put the Yarra Valley on the map for award-winning, small-batch Australian gin.

Try a tasting paddle to explore their core range—Rare Dry, Bloody Shiraz, and Spiced Negroni are all excellent picks. The atmosphere is relaxed and fun, and the staff are both passionate and incredibly knowledgeable. Then, after a scenic 10-minute drive, treat yourself at the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie & Ice Creamery. With sweeping views from the deck, it’s as much about the scenery as it is the sweets. Inside, explore handmade chocolates, creamy fudge, and playful nougat creations. You’ll usually find samples—and trust me, they’re impossible to resist. Their ice cream is also a crowd favourite, especially on warm valley days. Families will love it too—kids can join chocolate-making workshops and get hands-on with the fun.

So, whether it’s cheese, gin, chocolate or wine—you’re in for a delicious day in the Yarra Valley. These are just a few of the local favourites I personally love to share with my guests.

Finally, for wine lovers, a visit to Helen & Joey Estate is an absolute must. Their newly launched Re’em Yarra Valley experience is a true standout in the region. It includes a beautiful boutique hotel, a stylish restaurant, and of course, their exceptional cellar door. The lunch menu is getting rave reviews—perfect for a long, relaxed meal overlooking the vines. You’ll also find a private function room and, often, live music or food trucks on weekends. The setting is stunning and the atmosphere is casually luxurious—ideal for a special afternoon out.
